The Long Road

The Long Road

Well, this has been quite a journey. At the PGA EuroPro Great National Hotels Irish Masters this week, it hit me just how long the road has been. It was back in May 2015 when I first unveiled my new business idea to a few trusted mates back in Australia. The reaction? I’d say a mix between surprise and mild concern. How the SD-01 is made

How the SD-01 is made

The question we’re most often asked (after ‘are your balls any good?) is ‘how are they made?’ Here's a brief rundown... Our SD-01 is a three-piece tour grade ball, that starts life as a rubber ‘plug’ that’s moulded into our high energy BR (polybutadiene) rubber core. The core helps us control compression, driver spin rates and overall ball speed. The USGA regulates ball velocity and we have designed a core formulation to deliver the maximum speed allowed, while controlling compression to provide the feel required. Next up, is the mantle. The mantle layer is a high performance DuPont HPF resin...

Understanding Dimples

The Effects of Golf Ball Dimple Configuration on Aerodynamics and Trajectory  A golf ball is one of the most heavily regulated pieces of equipment used by a golfer. Size, shape, weight, initial velocity (i.e ball speed) and total distance are all pre-determined by USGA and R&A regulations and no ball, regardless of brand, can exceed these performance limits. Once hitting those limits, this really leaves the designer with two key areas for improving overall performance… aerodynamics and feel. Both are related to cover design and dimple pattern design. The total distance of a golf ball is influenced not only by...

Seed wins Best Brand Award

Seed wins Best Brand Award

Seed wins Silver Medal in 2016 Best Bands Awards Many people questioned our choice of brand name when we started (Seed is slang for golf ball in Australia, well, at least with my mates anyway) so it was very satisfying to pick up a Silver Medal in the International 2016 Best Brand Awards. A big thank you to our brand advisor Gary Schmidt, and the team at LOA Branding back in Brisbane for their work on the project. Legends!
