The new SD-01. As good as anything out there, at a price everyone can afford™.

The new, 3rd Generation SD-01 is a refinement of the original SD-01 design and see's improvements through the bag.

USGA & R&A test results show this to be the longest Seed we've ever produced, maxing out at 306 yards.

Enhanced overall performance by improving ball speed, increase in distance through the bag and an improved softer feel for more responsiveness off the club (particularly the shorter clubs and putter).

To do all that we developed one of thinnest urethane covers in golf, at just 0.0275" thick (ProV1 is 0.0300" by comparison) and a new, faster core that we've dubbed SeedSpeed.

What does all that mean?

Well, this ones the perfect combination of distance, feel and short game spin.

Here are some of the features of the SD-01 3rd Gen:

  • 3 piece Tour construction (like a Pro-V1)
  • Larger 'SeedSpeed' Core
  • Ultra Thin 0.0275" Urethane cover
  • Thinner, more responsive mantle layer
  • New urethane cover formulation for softer feel

Premium, professional quality golf balls are really difficult to make.

And that usually means they’re expensive.

At Seed, our products are developed by a small team of industry experts, young designers and experienced engineers. We focus on a core product range, offering maximum performance for the best value around.

We are obsessed with lowering the cost of premium balls, no doubt about that, but we’re just as obsessed with performance. It’s one of the reasons our SD-01 was named as the Official Ball of the PGA EuroPro Tour. We make every effort to provide the best possible value for you, within an proven design concept.

Choosing the right ball can be confusing, so rather than offering ten (or twenty) different golf ball models, we focus on the best model for a specific performance category. This leads to significant cost savings in the development as well as in the production process.

It’s a little known fact, but USGA and R&A performance regulations mean golf ball designers are somewhat restricted with what they can do performance wise. There’s only so much speed (i.e. launch/distance) we can put into a design and still be conforming, so that tends to limit the designers a little when pushing the development of the core and mantle layers. Our design process focused heavily around aerodynamic performance (fluid dynamics more specifically) particularly Magnus and aerodynamic force & the subsequent effects on lift and drag.

For a golfer, this translates into three important performance criteria – launch angle/ball speed, distance and spin/feel.

We’ve independently tested Seed and results confirm Seed balls compare favourably with the major brands.

Balls have been tested with a robotic swing machine and with groups of ‘real’ golfers. Swing parameters were set to identical for each Swing Robot Test and Real Golfers were given multiple shots with each ball, with results averaged. Balls have also been tested at the USGA Performance Lab and undergone extensive factory testing.

All area’s of performance have been considered with design integrity and performance consistency being key. Testing involves collecting data from numerous parameters included external parameters such as set up, club specifications, swing type, attack angle, swing plan, weather and launch conditions.

Unexpectedly great ball

The balls are as long as advertised, with a soft feel for chipping and putting. Put this together with a good price per ball and it is a winner.

Not bad balls

Think there some decent balls gonna have to try different types!

The shipping time for the golf balls was excellent. The balls shipped from Dublin and they shipped quicker than items that are shipped from California. Thanks, Glen

Still Pending Receipt Of Balls

So, I am super excited to receive my first shipment of Seed Balls, but they are stuck in transit (have been sitting in Cincinnati for a week, were originally slated to be delivered on the 8th). The slow shipment gives me pause about a subscription service, but I recognize that is not necessarily Seed's fault. If the balls end up arriving (and perform well) and this is just a one-time blip, I will revisit the review and keep the subscription going!

Surprisingly Good

Played a couple rounds in cold(ish) weather. Was pleasantly surprised by the SD-01. Felt solid off of my iron shots and exceptionally good around and on the greens. Played with one ball for a couple rounds and see very little "wear" on the ball. Very pleased with the ball so far.

Don't take our word for it
